The roots of Indian MSMEs can be traced back to the pre-independence era where handicrafts, cottage industries and various small-scaled enterprises flourished. Traditional skills have transferred through generations, bringing a rich tapestry of local enterprises. Since then, MSME has been the back bone of the Indian economy and have majorly contributed to the GDP, employment and export. 63 million MSMEs employ 113 million people contributing 30% of GDP and 45% in manufacturing output.
